Instagram has many tricks up its sleeve to keep users more engaged and happy. One such feature is hiding Instagram conversations. If you have specific chats on Instagram that you don't want anyone to read, even if they gain access to other DMs on the platform, you can choose to hide those specific chats.
While Instagram doesn't give you the option to "Hide Chats", there are other ways to achieve the desired result.
How to hide chats on Instagram
There are two ways to hide your Instagram conversations. Use these steps to hide your personal DMs that you don't want anyone to see.
Method 1
Open the Instagram app on Android or iPhone and go to chats
Open the chat you want to hide
Simply swipe up to activate disappear mode to hide the chat
You can now continue the conversation. Once the recipient or recipients have read your text, it disappears. In this mode, you can share GIFs, images, and videos that also disappear once you see them.
You can turn off this mode by swiping up again. Note that users who are part of this particular conversation can still take screenshots and report messages.
Method 2
Open your profile and tap the three menu lines in the top right corner
Settings>Account>Switch account type>Switch to a business account
Once done, go to the messages section and open the chat you want to hide
Now tap on “Move to General”.
Go back to Settings and switch to a personal account, your affected chats will disappear
To see these chats again, you will need to switch your account back to your business account and move this chat to 'primary' from 'general'
This way you can revisit your hidden chats. In particular, the use of Vanish mode is recommended rather than the above two methods.
